ARM LIFT (BRACHIOPLASTY) IN VANCOUVER
BENEFITS OF AN ARM LIFT
An arm lift, or brachioplasty, aims to improve the contour, shape and size of the upper arm.
WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM AN ARM LIFT?
The patients who will benefit most from a brachioplasty are those with a significant amount of loose skin in the upper arm. Ideally, the arms will appear somewhat ‘deflated’. Commonly, these are people who have lost weight and their upper arms are just one of many areas affected by loose, redundant skin.

WHERE DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE PLACE?
Dr. Reid performs his arm lifts at a private surgery centre in Vancouver.
BRACHIOPLASTY PREPARATION
It’s important to use a compression garment following arm lift surgery. This will help to limit the post-operative swelling, reduce the risk of complications and speed the recovery process. Your measurements will be taken ahead of time so that a garment can be ordered and received prior to your brachioplasty. The compression garment is beneficial for at least 3 weeks following a brachioplasty.
PLANNING A BRACHIOPLASTY
Not every brachioplasty is the same and prior to surgery, Dr. Reid will review your goals for the procedure and he will map out the anticipated scar position while trying to demonstrate the expected change in arm contour. The scar that results from an arm lift is strategically positioned along the inside of the arm where it is relatively less visible. The length of a brachioplasty scar is determined by the location and severity of skin excess. In most cases, the scar extends from the elbow, along the inside of the arm, across the axilla and on to the chest wall.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF LIPOSUCTION?
The back of the upper arm is a common place to have stubborn fat deposits. Should that be the case, liposuction of this area can be completed at the time of a brachioplasty.

STAGING AND COMBINING A BRACHIOPLASTY WITH OTHER PROCEDURES
A brachioplasty is commonly performed in conjunction with an upper back lift and a breast lift (or gynecomastia). When these three procedures are performed together it can be referred to as a ‘complete upper body lift’. For massive weight loss patients, this procedure usually follows a circumferential lower body lift or an abdominoplasty. A brachioplasty can also be safely combined with an abdominoplasty or lower body lift.
Meet The Staff

BRACHIOPLASTY RECOVERY
Brachioplasty incisions are closed with dissolving stitches and paper tape. Drainage tubes are not usually required. A compression garment will be applied immediately following the procedure and after a brief period in the recovery room patients are discharged home. An overnight stay at the surgery centre is not required. In the days following a brachioplasty, it is important to keep your arms elevated as this help to minimize swelling and speed the recovery. Follow-up appointments will take place at 3 days, 2 weeks, 6 weeks and 3 months following the procedure.
